Indian Institute of Forest Management Bhopal

In pursuance of the decision taken in the 81st meeting of the Board of Governors of IIFM held on 11th November, 2010 and in consultation with Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Govt. of India the Center for Climate Change Studies (CCCS) has been established at IIFM Bhopal with the following members:

Dr. Bhaskar Sinha (Chairperson), Prof. Madhu Verma (Member), Dr. D Debnath (Member), Dr. M D Omprakash (Member) and Dr. M K Singh (Member). The objectives of the center are as under;

1. To generate database on climate change negotiations, outcomes, mitigation, adaptation and low carbon technologies in consistent with the objectives of the NAPCC, international obligations, national policies and the specific parameters laid down in the National Mission on Strategic Knowledge on Climate Change (under preparation by DST).

2. To develop linkages with dedicated climate change related units under various State Governments, National and International agencies etc.

3. To identify the vulnerabilities and adaptation mechanisms, and develop livelihood linkages with climate change.

4. To study Biodiversity related issues and protection of indigenous rights of communities dependent on forests and livelihood and adaptation issues consistent with the Cancun decisions on REDD+ and related areas.

5. To have specific research and policy recommendation on development of methodology for REDD+, develop expertise in the areas relating to sustainable forest management, enhance of carbon stock and reducing deforestation in the context of climate change.

6. Conduct short term courses and Management Development Programmes related to Climate change issues.

Under the aegis of this center following events were organized during the year 2014-15;

1. Pre Workshop Meeting on “Establishment of Field Forest Laboratories for Climate Change Monitoring” at IIFM Bhopal on 09-06-2014. The workshop was sponsored by Madhya Pradesh Clean Development Mechanism Agency, Environment Planning & Co-ordination Organization, Govt. of MP, Bhopal.

2. National workshop on “Establishment of Field Forest Laboratories for Climate Change Monitoring” at IIFM Bhopal on 30-09-2014. The workshop was sponsored by sponsored by Madhya Pradesh Clean Development Mechanism Agency, Environment Planning & Co-ordination Organization, Govt. of MP, Bhopal.

3. National Workshop on “Development of an Integrated Research & Pilot Program for Climate-Smart Farmer and Forest Communities” Jointly organized by IIFM Bhopal, EPCO-GoMP Bhopal & IAG International, USA on 09-12-2014 at IIFM Bhopal.

4. UNDP Sponsored National Workshop on Landscape approach to Conservation and Natural Resource Management : Identifying Capacity Gaps in India at IIFM Bhopal on 15-16 Jan. 2014.

5. UNDP sponsored National Consultation on “JFM Guidelines with a Stronger Focus on Conservation and Sustainable Use of Medicinal Plants” at Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, Indira Paryavaran Bhawan, Narmada Hall, Ground Floor, JAL Wing, Jor Bagh Road, New Delhi, India on 12-01-2015.

Ongoing and proposed events for the year 2015-16 are;

1. Youth Ready for Climate Change Transformation workshop at IIFM Bhopal, MP, India on 28 & 29 July 2015.

2. Establishing Forest Field Labs in Madhya Pradesh. The project proposal has been submitted to Forest Department of Madhya Pradesh and awaiting sanction.
