"I am a Development Professional, presently implementing world's largest Rural Livelihood program i.e. "National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) in Jharkhand. I did M.Phil in NRM from IIFM in the year 2005. Before that I was a Social development professional i.e. due my education in MSW (Master of Social Work) in 1995. IIFM helped me understand NRM (Natural Resource management) in a holistic way and also built my techno-managerial skills and knowledge base in NRM for Livelihood promotion for rural poor people in a systematic way. In IIFM I also learned Sustainable Development i.e. 3Ps - People, Planet and Profit which helped me progress in my career
It is matter of great pride and honour to write about IIFM in any capacity and especially when one has spent a crucial phase of the students’ lifetime at the institute. MPhil in Natural Resources Management is a unique professional course at IIFM which is targeted at current student’s and early/mid-career professionals. In fact, IIFM is the first (and perhaps the only) institute in India to offer such a course that follows a multiand inter- disciplinary approach and encompasses a wide range of topics which are usefulin Environment, Forestry and Development sector. The course which is a mix of interactive classroom sessions, group and lab work, field exposures and a dissertation component provide an excellent opportunity to learn about issues in resource management. Depending on one’s career interest, these learning’s are apt for various national and international professional opportunities in research, consultancy, teaching, corporate social responsibility, and development sector. I strongly recommend this course to prospective students and professionals.
An M.Phil from IIFM helped me amalgamate a managerial outlook of natural resource management, to my background of research. I was able to get access to the best faculties in their areas of expertise & the brand name that comes by associating with institute of International repute. Not only is it set up in a picturesque location, but the classmates who are from different parts of India & other countries teach you to learn & respect diverse viewpoints & culture. It was definitely a launch pad to my career & helped broaden my vision, which is proving to be great help to me now”
One year program of M.Phil at IIFM, opened a vast panorama of all kinds of natural resources, their significance in human life, a range of threats to these resources and respective social problems mounting by the day. Various exposures given by the Institute during this course provided me an opportunity to understand different aspects of environment. Teachers always encouraged innovative ideas that help me in my professional assignments always. Right now I am working on one of UNESCO projects, which is an initiative towards creating an innovative model for community led conservation and sustainable management of UNESCO's Natural Heritage Sites in Northern cluster of western ghats, Maharashtra.
"The lush green campus is really mesmerized, a perfect and healthy environment for students. The professors are experienced, and many have taught in other prestigious institutions. Institute organized lots of event, programmes and activities which help to open lots of opportunities and learning’s as well. Our M.Phil course gave us enough exposure in both theoretical as well as field work. Our lectures were really interactive. I had an amazing experience in both domestic and International visits. The most important thing I’ve learnt in the course is to love my work., I get motivation to do better. The key is to do things with enthusiasm. IIFM is an unforgettable memory to me"
