About

Centre for Policy Studies – a Centre for Excellence at IIFM, Bhopal is a policy think tank mandated to support evidence-based decision-making in forest and natural resource management (NRM) sectors in India.

We promote interdisciplinary scholarship integrating ecological, economic and social dimensions of forestry and NRM sectors through research, consultancy, education and outreach initiatives

Our Mission

To create and develop opportunities for analyzing the legal, regulatory, institutional and policy aspects of forest and NRM from local to national and global perspectives

We strive to

I. Encourage the proactive consideration of forests and NRM objectives in policies

II. Provide relevant and timely information to various stakeholders for supporting decision-making and implementation processes related to forests and NRM

III. Develop strong collaborative networks and partnerships with other policy think tanks, policy professionals and practitioners around the world.

IV. Lead policy thinking and practice in India in forest and NRM sectors, promoting equitable, inclusive and sustainable solutions to existing and emergent challenges

Our track record

i. Review and Revision of National Forest Policy -1988: We undertook the review and revision of National Forest Policy of 1988 for Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change through a wide consultative process with active participation from all the relevant stakeholders including State Forest Departments, NGOs, related line departments, industries and the academia.

ii. Knowledge Partnership with UNICEF, Madhya Pradesh and Department of Tribal Welfare, Government of Madhya Pradesh to Address Equity Issues among Tribal Population of Madhya Pradesh : We developed planning and monitoring mechanism for the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), conducted capacity building programmes for the officials of Department of Tribal Welfare on TSP and developed the Child Rights Manual for Panchayati Raj Institutions with special attention to tribal children
