Dr. Dhanya Bhaskar

Faculty Area: Ecosystem and Environment Management
Dhanya Bhaskar is presently Associate Professor of Ecosystem and Environment Management and Chairperson, Centre for Policy Studies at Indian Institute of Forest Management. She is deeply interested in teaching and researching sustainability from the ecological perspective. Her work is located at the interface of ecological and livelihood sustainability in forest, rural and urban landscapes. Prior to joining IIFM, Dhanya had worked with Azim Premji University, Bangalore as Assistant Professor of Sustainability (2014-2020) and with University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur, Karnataka as Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Environmental Studies (2011-2014).
Area of expertise: Systems thinking and understanding forests, farms and cities as social-ecological systems.
Research interests: Urban sustainability with focus on urban green infrastructure, forest policy, biodiversity conservation and livelihoods, ecological restoration, environment-human health linkages

a) ‘Nature conservation in urbanizing landscapes’ funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India as part of the Indo–German Research Collaboration FOR2432
b) ‘Food systems in transition- the case of Soligas in BR Hills, Karnataka’ funded by the Research Centre, Azim Premji University, Bangalore
