Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM), Bhopal

The Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM), Bhopal is a premier sectoral management institute under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.

The Institute commenced a three-day training workshop on "Ecosystem-based Solutions and Green Credits" on November 21, 2023. The workshop observed the enthusiastic participation of a diverse group of 30 professionals. This inclusive gathering included international and national participants, as well as key stakeholders representing 13 states across the nation.

 

The Chief Guest for the inaugural session was Shri Subharanjan Sen, IFS, APCCF (Wildlife), Madhya Pradesh. The workshop was chaired by Dr. K. Ravichandran, IFS, Director, IIFM; Dr. C.P. Kala, Chairperson (MDP), IIFM; Dr. Advait Edgaonkar; and Dr. Nimai Das, Course Director, IIFM.

 

In his address to the participants, Shri Sen stressed the importance of relying on ecosystem-based solutions. He emphasized that the objective extends beyond preserving the environment; it's a crucial step in securing our own lives.

 

Shedding light on the need for this workshop, Dr K. Ravichandran highlighted the pressing challenges of living in the era of climate change, stressing the degradation of the environment and its adverse effects on both humans and other life forms. Emphasizing the limitations of conventional solutions, he underscored the effectiveness of nature-based and ecosystem-based solutions in addressing issues of land and biodiversity degradation, as well as environmental pollution. Additionally, he underscored the pivotal role played by IIFM, Bhopal in formulating rules and guidelines in the significant development of the Green Credit program in India with ICFRE.

 

This three-day workshop unfolds until November 23, aims to explore various facets of ecosystem services and provide pragmatic, cost-effective solutions. During the workshop, distinguished faculties of IIFM will shed light on various topics addressing environmental issues and their solutions.
