Dr. Bal Krishna Upadhyay is Post Graduate and Doctorate in Psychology, has completed Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Human Resource Development, and PGD in Guidance and Counselling from Barkatullah Vishwavidayalaya, Bhopal and holds a degree in Management (MBA) with HRM specialization from Madurai Kamaraja University, Madurai.
Dr. Upadhyay has more than 20 years of teaching, training, and research and consultancy experience, while working in various academic, research, Development and training organisations. His area of specialization is Organizational Behaviour, Human Resource Management, Environmental Psychology and his interest area is application of Psychological tools in organisation and community level, environmental Psychology, Issues in Climate Change, CSR, livelihood development and extension issues, Human- Environment Behavioural issues, Training and Development, Research Methods and Statistics, Applied Social Psychology.
He has supervised PhD/Fellow Programme in Management students in the field of Transportation & Commuting, Employability factors in India; Stress and Job satisfaction; Application of indigenous knowledge in premise of contemporary management; HRM practices and their impacts; Quality of work life, etc. He has also guided several M.Phil., and PG thesis with different topics pertaining to evaluation of Social development programmes, social practices, gender issues, policy impact, happiness etc.
Other than academic, research, and training experience, Dr. Upadhyay has also held various administrative positions like Chairperson FPAC, Chairperson- Research Advisory Cell, Consultancy Cell and Chairperson- Admissions (M.Phil. & FPM) at IIFM; Chairperson – Administration; and Director in Charge CHILDLINE (Nodal Organisation Bhopal) to name few and is the member of Centre of Excellence in CSR at IIFM.
Dr. Bal Krishna Upadhyay is one of the recipient of Witkin- Okonji Award in 2008 at Bremen, Germany apart from holding the first university position in M.Phil. (1998).
Dr. Upadhyay was a member elect of the American Psychological Association (APA), USA from Jan 2021 to Dec 2022.
Dr Upadhyay has designed and taught courses in Organisational Behaviour, Behaviour in Organisation, Designing work organisation, Conflict Resolution in NRM, Leadership Development skills, Leadership in Sustainable Development, EBTI, Legal Aspects of Business, Behaviour in Organization: Advance Theories and Models, Sustainable Human Resource Management, Managing People and Performance in organisations, etc., for PGDFM, FPM and PGDSM programmes at IIFM.
The research interest of Dr Upadhyay pertains to the Human- Environment Behavioural issues, Leadership, Evaluation, CSR, livelihood development and extension issues, behavioral issues in Climate change, Human resource planning, Training and development, Conflict in NRM, Stress and Wellbeing, Happiness, etc. Dr. Upadhyay has worked on several sponsored research studies as the Principal Investigator (PI) and as Co-PI focusing on issues pertaining to individual Lifestyle, attribution pattern, and Carbon footprinting; happiness, and wellbeing in Natural Resource Management. He has also worked on the topics like Willingness to communicate (WTC), Apprehension and Leadership in forestry and environment setup, organisational restructuring, TNA and curriculum development for stakeholders of forestry sector; women empowerment and HRP, Behavioural adaptation in climate change in Himalayan region, etc. He was one of the PI for JICA evaluation project sponsored by the MoEF&CC.
Dr. Upadhyay has published more than 30 research and critical papers in established international & national journals and books (as chapter). He has also two books authored/co-authored in his name. He has participated and presented papers, chaired sessions in more than 30 national and international conferences and seminars, both in India and abroad.
Dr. Upadhyay has coordinated and imparted more than 24 capacity building & training programmes as Programme Director/Co- programme Director to government officials, corporate leaders, business leaders, panchayat and forest community members, etc. The topics of his training programme are varied like Environmental Leadership and Life Skills, Emotional Intelligence, Leadership, Group dynamics, Team Building, Conflict resolution, Stress management, competition management, behavioural adaptation with climate change and other topics connecting management, environment, climate change, etc. In addition, Dr. Upadhyay is a trained Trainer for Trainers and has successfully participated in the Professional Development Workshops on Evaluation Methods from Claremont Evaluation Centre, Claremont Graduate School, USA. Also, he has attended Training programme on CSR, Emotional intelligence & team Building, etc.
Dr. Upadhyay has completed several consultancy projects requiring conduction of impact assessment of CSR activities, evaluation of various projects, preparing CSR plan, Human resource planning, training need assessment, etc. for reputed organsations like EMIL (Aditya Birla Group), NHDC, Department of Statistics, Govt. of M.P., A&N forest department, Eastern Coal Ltd., etc.
